Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action-adventure RPG. The story takes place in the beautifully created Night City. There are many reasons to be hyped about this game and there are many reasons for skepticism. We will give you the best information regarding the state of the game so you can make the best decision with your money.
Cyberpunk 2077 is in the running for many game awards this season. Game awards happen every year and they often bring new life to games. Cyberpunk 2077 is on the good side of that fact this year as it is topping the sales charts for a second consecutive holiday season.
The hype train was unreal last year as the game made its release early December 2020. It was a very rocky release especially for gamers on last generation consoles. PC and next gen consoles had their share of bugs, but not quite the extent of old gaming technology. Which is an issue considering the game was developed for those older consoles.
This season, the game comes equipped with a warning.
PlayStation 4 was probably the hardest hit by the critics. Sony removed the game from the PS Store just days after release. It has since returned.
So why has the game suddenly returned to spotlight?
Let’s look first at the price. The game first released for $59.99 across all platforms. It is now:
Steam – $29.99
Xbox – $29.99
PS – $24.99
The drop in price as much as 50% could have contributed to the spike in sales. Perhaps gamers feel more comfortable risking the bugs of last year for less money. The real story here is what the game could be.
The gaming community has been thirsting for a cybernetic future with a chaotic city for a long time. That is exactly what Cyberpunk 2077 gave us; however, they did the one thing that gaming devs should not do. Which is overhype what they got. We frankly wanted exactly what they gave us, but more. The bugs can be fixed yes, but the game was missing some core features that were promised. A ton more can be happening in Night City. Perhaps it will someday.
Not much has been added since last year. The game does run a little smoother.
I was on record last year saying the game didn’t run poorly on my PS4. Which was true but a well-maintained ancient device can run pretty smoothly. I wouldn’t recommend the game to last gen players though simply because y’all cry. Especially Sony players.
If you have PC and new generation Xbox X|S, then why not give it a shot?
Overall, the game is okay. There could be much more to it sure. I have personally put a couple hundred hours into it on multiple platforms, so it has been worth the money for me. See if it is worth 50% less to you. The sales will end in about 6 days from now (I suspect they will return).
